Nancy Arrives and We Leave Collioure

Well, I have had have a busy two+ weeks between Nancy and Peter being here. It has been GREAT to have them here, of course!! But I have not been posting, so let me see how quickly I can fill you in on our fun!!

March 28th
I met Nancy at the Perpignan train station, which is a short walk to catch the bus to Port Vendres when she arrived. (Nancy is a friend from 5th grade!) She had wanted to eat at La Tramontane, and that was our first Mediterrean meal together. We did have fun chatting with a French woman at the next table who lives in Paris but has another home in PV, and LOVES it. She thinks the people are more real here than in Paris! (She was very unlike most French people I have seen here as she had ready gotten into her vino veritas at lunch! The reader can decide if this is a case of "the pot calling the kettle black"!)
Charles Rennie Macintosh, the famous Scotch architect, lived in PV for  a short time, and there is a small museum, open only Friday afternoons from 3-5, with some of his drawings

(not his architectural drawings). His art deco work reminds me Frank Lloyd Wright.  Afterwards we stopped at Sally’s for a cup of tea, before we headed back to Collioure. We went into town for dinner at Le Fregate, which Marion had recommended.

March 29th
After our dinner at Le Fregate on Friday night we had spotted a poster for a Carlos Barrantes' photography exhibit in Perpignan Nancy was interested in seeing. After Nancy (hopefully) got her phone issues resolved, we went to the Couvent des Minimes to see the exhibit. I didn't know where it was or what it was near! Luckily I asked a young Perpignan couple who told us to follow them. We did walk through a rundown neighborhood, where two men were angrily yelling at each other; I was glad when we were away from and nearly at our destination. The free city-sponsored show was in a wonderful old building which looked a bit like a Quonset hut with photos on the walls and an altar. It was an interesting show, and an easier walk back to catch the bus back to Collioure.
I had invited Marion and David for a glass of wine at 6, but our bus arrived back at Le Faubourg stop at 6:05, so we weren't there when they arrived. Fortunately they came back, and we had a nice visit with them!
March 30th
It was Sunday morning, and Nancy wanted to see "the best market around", but on our way we stopped at LeLana's for a cup of tea. It was a lovely sunny Collioure day, perfect for wandering around and enjoying our last day before heading to Barcelona! I had to have her see Les Templiers, as it is probably the most famous restaurant/bar in Collioure, since all the famous painters had stopped there!  That night Sally joined us for dinner and a delightful visit!

March 31st
On Monday we had coffee with Marion and David before we  got  a ride to Figueres to take the train to Barcelona. I had bought our tickets in Collioure, and our tickets said we arrived a little over an hour. So I was mystified when we were still on the train after an hour and a half! With our limited Spanish, we learned it would be yet twenty minutes before we actually arrived! Raul, the flat owner, picked us up, and took us to his wonderful place in Exiample, where my son Peter was waiting for us.
